Does sleep affect acne??

Does sleep affect acne?

Yes it does. Big time.

But you cannot say sleep causes acne. Sleep, specifically sleep deprivation, affects acne indirectly. Sleep affects most, if not all, the causes that lead to acne.

Lets see how this happens and how you can harness the power of sleep to cure acne. Wouldn't that be nice? Just put your head into the pillow and dream your pimples away? As you are about to see sleep is an important part to getting clear.

Importance of sleep

Sleep, just like food and air, is something your body needs. It's not an option. Extreme sleep deprivation can lead to death, just as sure as starvation does.

Consider sleep as maintenance time. It affects both the mind and the body. And when you don't get enough sleep both suffer and eventually breakdown. Just like a car breaks down if you don't take good care of it.

Lack of sleep, also called sleep deprivation can lead to acne and other health issues, some extremely serious.

Before we get to that let's define sleep deprivation as not getting enough sleep. You've been there. You can't get out of bed and feel tired and low energy the whole day. Although sleeping too much can also cause this, as I explain in my Wake Up To Clear Skin report.

There is no magical number of hours you need to sleep. Sleep deprivation has more to do with the quality of your sleep than the number of hours you sleep. That explains why some people can sleep 5 hours a night and feel rested and energized. While other person can sleep 10 hours and still wake up tired and feel groggy the whole day.

Health effects of sleep deprivation

Not getting enough sleep is serious. It has shown to

  • Increase inflammation (the main cause behind acne)
  • Increase insulin resistance (another bad boy behind acne)
  • Make you fat
  • Increase stress (read how stress affects acne)
  • Lead to depression and negative attitude

Quite a list – eh? All for skimping little sleep. Something we all do in modern society.

How Your Diet Can Help Ease Stretch Marks?

How Your Diet Can Help Ease Stretch Marks?

Most people would tell you that there is no real method to prepare yourself for the coming of stretch marks. They say that it is far too rooted in genetic traits and heredity, and well, you’re simply doomed, consigned to a spidery train track of stretch marks around your body. This is simply nonsense. There are always ways to take charge of your own skin - and sometimes, the answer to better skin is a drink of water only.

Remember that when we talk about our skin, we are talking about a whole organ, an organ of sense and of feeling. If so many things are being done to protect the brain, the liver and the heart, then what makes the skin less valuable? Without the skin, our muscles and veins would be exposed to the harsh environment, and we would probably bleed every time we walked out the streets.

One good way to take care of the skin and at the same time avert the coming of those dreaded “badges of honor” or stretch marks is by making our daily routines specifically geared to keeping our skin as supple and as healthy as possible.

Starting a Skin-Friendly Beauty Regimen

You don’t have to spend wads of cash to be beautiful and stretch mark-free. You simply have to know the basics of preparing the skin to be twice as tough and twice as beautiful.

1. Hydrotherapy - did you know that drinking plenty of water will keep your skin moisturized from within. Plain water may be used to rejuvenate flagging skin as well.

What you can do is to submerge yourself in a tub of cold water for a few minutes, then transfer to a tub of hot water afterward. The sudden change from cold to hot will stimulate the skin to function more efficiently. This would perk up sluggish veins and arteries in the skin.

If you wish to detoxify, raise a tub of water to around 40 degrees (or to as hot as you can go) and soak for 30 minutes to 1 hour. If this would be the first time that you would be doing this, take note that you might feel a bit dizzy. The toxins on the skin will react with the hot water and the body takes away these toxins to be excreted as sweat or urine.

2. Diet - it seems that the vegetarian groups were correct - having no meat at all is a good thing in itself. Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables would completely turn around bad skin. This is the result of the body strengthening itself with the influx of vital amino acids and vitamins and minerals from the fruits.

The moisture from the fruits would also make your skin much supple and would also increase the efficiency of toxin disposal.

Vitamin E is also good for the skin. Since most vitamin E supplements come in liquid gels capsules, you can simply burst a few gel capsules at a time and massage the contents directly to the affected parts of your body to keep the marks from getting worse.

Stretch Marks

Stretch Marks

Your skin is usually fairly elastic, but when you grow or gain weight really quickly (like during puberty or pregnancy), you may get fine lines on your body called stretch marks. Stretch marks occur when the tissue under your skin tears from rapid growth or stretching. When the skin is over-stretched, it produces too much collagen, which can form the “scars” called stretch marks.

Stretch marks often show up on places like your breasts, thighs, hips, and butt. Most girls and women have stretch marks, so if you have them, you’re not alone.

Although they’re more common in girls, guys can get stretch marks, too. Guys and girls who are body builders are more prone to getting them because of the rapid body changes that body building can produce. Obesity can also lead to stretch marks. Stretch marks are also more likely to occur if a person uses steroid-containing (such as hydrocortisone) creams or ointments on their skin for a long time (more than a few weeks).

At first, stretch marks may show up as reddish or purplish lines, but they often will turn lighter (whitish or flesh-coloured) and almost disappear over time. So if you’re taking a trip to the beach this summer, you shouldn’t stress out too much about them. Your stretch marks will usually fade and become less noticeable over time.

Diet for Acne Scars

What Are Acne Scars?

Acne scars are the marks of acne left behind on the skin, after the acne is cured. Acne scars are most often the product of an inflamed lesion, such as a papule, pustule, or cyst. Acne scars do not pose a medical problem but do cause emotional problems to the sufferers.

Acne causes different kinds of scars. Atrophic scars are depressed scars. They are small when they occur on the face but larger if they occur elsewhere. Post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation (PIH is temporary discoloration of the skin that fades on its own. They are left behind once the acne has healed up. Rolling scars give skin a wave-like appearance. Ice pick scars are deep pitted scars with steep edges.
Blackheads, whiteheads, and other non-inflamed blemishes don’t cause scarring because they don’t injure skin tissue. The development of the scar depends on the amount of inflammation of the skin. The greater the inflammation, the more scarring will occur.

Diet For Acne Scars

A balanced and nutritious diet is an answer to most of our ailments. So it is not surprising that it helps heal acne scars too. Foods high in beta-carotene can help to reduce severe acne, and thus reduce scarring. Orange and yellow foods such as carrots, pumpkin, cantaloupe should be included in the diet to prevent acne scarring.

Foods rich in fibers such as oatmeal, rice, brown grains, and applesauce help detoxify the body and reduce acne. Foods such as carrots, squash etc containing vitamin A help in production of collagen that aids skin repair. Flaxseed oil or oily fish such as salmon contain vitamin F; omega fatty acids which decrease facial scarring.

A balanced diet used in combination with home remedies for acne scars is sure to have the desirable effect.
